SILENCE
We are often reminded that
“Silence is golden,” but never oftener than when we neglect our rests in
playing the piano. It is not only the beginner, but oftener the advanced
performer, too, who commits this crime and allows the pedal, or his own love of
a “good noise,” to sway him more than the thought of his audience’s desire for
a moment’s rest and silence. Remember it is the rests which make the music
beautiful.
